Meet The Maker

The designer behind the label

Meekz Contemporary Jewellery is an environmentally sustainable jewellery design label, that transforms the everyday into something unique and beautiful, creating pieces that tell a story.

Run by me, Jemica Ostrofski, I work from home in my home-based studio in Lutwyche, Queensland, Australia.

Following my passion of minimalist sculptural design, I studied fine art at the Queensland College of Art and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Art with First Class Honours, after majoring in Gold and Silversmithing.

Relocating to the country to be with family in 2010, we transformed an old horse stable into my studio and I began pursuing my jewellery full time as a silversmith.

Inspired by fashion design, costume jewellery and urban geometric form, my jewellery is individually hand crafted and each piece tells a story.

Using traditional silversmithing techniques such as hand sawing, soldering and metal texturing, I bring to life my sketched drawings to create one of a kind pieces that can be worn every day.

Adopting an ethically responsible and environmentally friendly practice, all Meekz collections are made using recycled, found and repurposed metals.

The tactile nature of working with raw materials alongside existing forms always creates a dialogue for me and keeps me searching for new ways to express and build on existing stories.
